Monday madness

Weekend is over monday is here, my head is paining because of the lack of sleep…….its not becuse i partied hard till late in the night or anything of the sort, its because i couldnt get sleep properly in the night, after working in the night and sleeping in the day all week what u suffer from is a bad jetlag syndrome on ur day off. Anywayz the weekend was not bad. Its the mondays that are bad the day seems endless and the calls come in non stop and my weekend is 5 days away. Thankfully there were no irate customers today and most knew the diffrence between their windows and their office. Im wating for my salary now that its the end of the month even tho i know i’ll not get any incentives which is sad, thats ok there is always next month……..if i stick around that long ofcourse. As christmas gets nearer the temptation to quit and go home grows stronger. My 2 brothers will be going back home for christmas and i’ll be left all alone here. I just want to go home and enjoy. Maybe i’ll quit, lets see whats stronger the urge to make money or the urge to go back home and do nothing, for a while at least.

Rain, however, is forecast, which if correct could throw the grid into disarray, as was the case last season when heavy rain caused havoc in qualifying at Interlagos. The three title contenders a year ago - Rubens Barrichello, Jenson Button and Sebastian Vettel - started from an array of positions in pole, 14th and 16th respectively. After watching Vettel finish almost four tenths of a second ahead of championship leader Fernando Alonso yesterday, Domenicali was far from surprised. But given the likely weather conditions, he knows how easily the best-laid plans could fall apart, which is why he is demanding calm, clear thinking. "I would say there is nothing new under the sun, even here in Brazil," said Domenicali.

"The pecking order seems to be the one we have seen throughout this part of the season, with Red Bull definitely having a slight edge. "However, the forecast is for rain, therefore qualifying will be even more difficult. "Factors other than the pure pace of the vehicle and the driver's performance will also come into consideration. "More than ever, it will be important to keep a cool head and concentrate in order to manage as well as possible the various situations that could arise." Alonso is the man most under pressure as he leads the way by 11 points from Webber. Alonso said: "With the forecast for rain anything could happen. Arguably of greater concern for Alonso is his engine situation as it is understood the double world champion is currently on his last one that has already run a number of miles.

Ferrari have been desperately attempting to manage matters given Alonso used up his permitted eight for the season some time ago. Since then they have been swapping and changing engines, trying to extend their life, only for one to give way in the dying moments of first practice. It was evident, however, they were already aware of the situation as they admitted just as practice started they would be changing it anyway given it was on its last legs. A calm Alonso added: "The engine change between the two sessions was already on the day's programme, therefore in reality I only lost a couple of laps, nothing more."

The woman stepped off Hadda Street into a pair of courier offices in Yemen's capital. In FedEx and UPS storefronts tucked along shopping centers and travel agencies in San'a, she mailed two Hewlett-Packard printers to the United States. She used a fake name, address and phone number. She paid in cash. Then she disappeared. Hidden inside each printer was a bomb powerful enough to down an airplane. Authorities believe it was the most sophisticated effort yet by al-Qaida in Yemen to strike inside the U.S. Though details are still emerging, a senior U.S. official said evidence points to a plot to blow up cargo planes inside the U.S., either on runways or over American cities. Alerted to the plot by Saudi intelligence, security officials chased the two packages across five countries, trying frantically over the next two days to prevent an explosion that could have come at any moment. Several times, the explosive packages were in plain sight. Twice, a bomb was aboard a passenger plane. Once, authorities were just minutes too late to stop a cargo jet with a bomb from departing for its next destination.

The pursuit — recounted to The Associated Press by officials in the U.S., Britain, Yemen, Germany and the United Arab Emirates — shows that even when the world's counterterrorism systems work, preventing an attack is often a terrifyingly close ordeal. For al-Qaida, the two bombs were a significant upgrade over the small device that failed to detonate inside a passenger's underwear on a U.S.-bound jet last Christmas. This time, the bombers packed four times the explosives. Instead of relying on a suicide bomber to ignite the fuse, the bombmaker wired these devices to explode using the alarm function of two cell phones. The phones were wired to syringes full of lead azide, a powder that takes only a small electric charge to explode.

The printer cartridges were filled with PETN, an industrial explosive that, when X-rayed, would resemble the cartridge's ink powder. Used in heavy construction, PETN is stable enough to endure the jostling of a trans-Atlantic flight but extremely volatile if triggered by a small explosion. Bomb experts say the cell phone alarm probably would have sent an electrical charge into the syringe, heating a filament and igniting the lead azide. That would trigger the PETN.

U.S. counterterrorism officials believe it was the work of al-Qaida's master bombmaker in Yemen, Ibrahim Hassan al-Asiri, who's been linked to the Christmas plot. UPS and FedEx employees screened the packages in Yemen, according to two U.S. officials who, like most people interviewed, spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to talk to reporters.

In Yemen, cargo screening is done manually, one official said. Employees looked at the contents of the packages but never took the printer apart. Both packages were cleared for delivery.

It was a breakdown in the first line of defense in the cargo system. The U.S. doesn't inspect international packages until they arrive, relying instead on shipping companies to do the screening. The addresses on the packages were outdated locations for two Chicago synagogues. The recipients were figures from the Crusades and the Spanish Inquisition — historic episodes in which Christians persecuted Muslims. For these reasons, officials believe al-Qaida never intended the bombs to be delivered and hoped instead for an airplane explosion. The packages were dropped off Wednesday, Oct. 27. The FedEx bomb was loaded aboard a passenger jet, a Qatar Airways plane that seats 144. It left Yemen on Oct. 28, for Doha, Qatar. The UPS bomb left Yemen early that same evening, headed to Cologne, Germany. As Thursday evening turned to Friday morning in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the CIA station received an urgent call from Saudi intelligence. Two bombs were being shipped from Yemen, bound for the United States. One was UPS, the other FedEx, and the Saudis had both the tracking numbers. The AP is not reporting some details about the tip at the request of intelligence and administration officials who said doing so would jeopardize national security.

A senior CIA official in Riyadh relayed the tip to the agency's headquarters in Virginia, where it was early Thursday evening. CIA officials called the White House, and homeland security adviser John Brennan briefed President Barack Obama, who was in his living quarters. The FBI called FedEx and UPS, which had participated in a government terrorism drill in August. The exercise: A homemade bomb slipped onto a cargo plane. U.S. and Saudi authorities put Europe on alert. Britain's intelligence division, MI-6, also received a tip through its office in Yemen. U.S. authorities had been monitoring steady intelligence on a possible attack like this since early September, a U.S. official said. In early October, the U.S. received a general tip from the Saudis about a possible al-Qaida effort to down airplanes, intelligence officials said. Also in late September, authorities intercepted a package from Yemen containing papers, books and other items sent to a Chicago-area Muslim bookstore, a senior U.S. official said. At the time, counterterrorism officials thought perhaps the package included coded messages or was intended to set up contact with allies in Chicago, the official said. Now, investigators believe al-Qaida just wanted to track the package and see how long it took to get into the U.S. so it could time its bombs more effectively.

The official did not identify the bookstore, but FBI and Internal Revenue Service investigators have recently taken an interest in IQRA International Educational Foundation, a nonprofit Islamic foundation that runs a Chicago-area bookstore. Financial manager Wahaj Ahmed said this past week that IRS auditors showed up about a month ago to inspect the books. That was around the time the group received a FedEx envelope from a company wanting to do business with IQRA. The company was based in Yemen, he said. The FBI arrived a few days ago, asking questions about the envelope. "They said anything emanating from that area, they were tracking it," Ahmed said. With U.S. intelligence on notice, officials in Saudi Arabia summoned the local liaison for Germany's Federal Criminal Police into a meeting to discuss the bombs. When the meeting began, a senior German official said, it was 1:34 a.m. Friday in Germany and the UPS bomb was sitting at the airport in Cologne, waiting to leave for England. The liaison officer hurriedly called Germany and authorities rushed to stop the plane. At 2:40 a.m., police ordered that the package could not leave the country. It was too late. The cargo plane had taken off 36 minutes earlier. There had never been a chance to spot the bomb in Germany. UPS is among several "safe" companies, German officials said, so the packages weren't inspected.

The plane was on its way to central England. On the ground, officials didn't know for sure whether a bomb was on board, and if so, when it would go off. It is a 90-minute flight from Cologne to East Midlands, England.

At the White House, Brennan began calling U.S. intelligence leaders to brief them about the plot.

The FBI called Jewish organizations in the Chicago area, a U.S. official said, and placed two locations under surveillance. When the UPS plane landed in England, it was just after 10 p.m. Thursday in Washington and 3 a.m. Friday in England. The bombs had begun their journey more than 24 hours before and neither had been found. British investigators were waiting for plane, tipped off by Saudi, U.S. and German officials. Leicestershire police set up a security perimeter and pulled the package off the plane. Police searched the plane, and even the printer, for hours but found nothing. Pauline Neville-Jones, British minister of state security, was briefed and Brennan spoke with British Deputy Security Adviser Ollie Robbins. But at 10 a.m. local time, after nearly seven hours of search, police concluded there was no explosive. The UPS plane was cleared for takeoff to Philadelphia, and on to Chicago. While British police were searching the UPS package, the FedEX bomb arrived in Dubai aboard a passenger plane from Qatar, where it had spent the night. Dubai police, having been tipped off to the package, discovered the bomb shortly after it arrived, according to a UAE official security source. The sun was coming up Friday morning in Washington as investigators in Dubai got the first look at al-Qaida's deadly device. The U.S. banned all inbound cargo from Yemen. At 8:30 a.m. in Washington, the government alerted all cargo carriers: Someone is trying to ship explosives from Yemen into the U.S., and we don't know how many there are.

In England, police gave the all-clear. Despite not finding the bomb, authorities cleared the plane for takeoff for Philadelphia, and on to Chicago. Before it could leave, however, British officials were told about the discovery in Dubai and were urged to look again. Brennan and Robbins spoke by phone a second time, and Dubai officials told British police exactly how to locate the bomb. At 2 p.m. local time, nearly 12 hours after the UPS bomb arrived in England, police put the security perimeter back in place and resume the search. Brennan and Robbins talked a third time, then Brennan called Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh, a crucial but sometimes unreliable ally in the U.S.-led effort to wipe out al-Qaida. At the White House, the plot was a centerpiece of President Barack Obama's morning security briefing. Exactly when police in England discovered the bomb remains unclear, but authorities there removed the security perimeter and left the airport at 5:30 p.m. local time. By then the search was on for all packages coming out of Yemen. FBI and Transportation Security Administration officials boarded cargo planes in Philadelphia and Newark, N.J., on Friday, pulling out packages and searching for bombs. TSA said the searches were done "out of an abundance of caution." But at the White House and in capitals around the world, the question was more urgent. Are there more bombs?

Homeland Security officials alerted Jewish leaders around the country, through what's known as the Secure Community Network, that synagogues should be on the lookout for suspicious packages from Yemen. UPS, FedEx and Mideast-based shipper Aramex put a halt to all shipments out of Yemen. As Obama prepared to address the nation, two U.S. fighter jets escorted Emirates Flight 201 into New York. The flight was from Dubai, and investigators feared packages from Yemen may have been on board. Obama called it a "credible terrorist threat against our country." Though he stopped short of blaming al-Qaida in Yemen for the plot, he singled out the group and pledged again to destroy it. That night, in an unusual move, Brennan released a statement thanking Saudi Arabia for a tip that "helped underscore the imminence of the threat emanating from Yemen." Al-Qaida in Yemen is easily the most tech-savvy of al-Qaida's affiliate groups. So, intelligence officials monitored jihadist Web sites for days, waiting for some claim of credit. Finally, a week after the attempted attack, al-Qaida in Yemen sent word late Friday afternoon on a jihadist Web site that it had been behind the plot. "Our advanced explosives give us the opportunity to detonate them in the air or after they have reached their final target, and they are designed to bypass all detection devices," the statement said.

Even though the bombs never exploded, al-Qaida declared itself victorious for slipping its bombs past security. And it pledged there would more bombs, on more planes.

Many dear friends of mine are just about to tie the knot this year. For all of them and for all of you going-to-be-married in the near future, here’s something you gotta know. Early married life is not as rosy as you think, especially the first year. Most of you who are married will tell someone who is just dating, “Aaah, this is just the beginning. Marriage changes everything.” But I have always wondered how. Maybe when I AM married, I will be able to discover that in detail. Sure now it’s just the lovey-dovey phone calls, and the 5-10 year plans, the little argument and fights and the making up. But how much of this really changes after one says ‘I do’? This Shine story has sort of opened my eyes to what I can expect after marriage. Now, I have sorted them out as pointers that best fit an Indian ‘situation’. For all those of you who are on the verge of saying your vows, this one’s dedicated to you:

1. THE SHOCK: You’ll gain a little love weight.
Your grandma and nosey aunt were not wrong. People DO gain weight after being married. And when you do, don’t freak, accept it. (And yes, hit the gym asap) And however much you want to impress hubby/wife with your cooking skills, masaledar khana should not be an everyday affair.

2. THE SHOCK: Your B-list buddies will go missing.
Now, it is one thing for you to forget some of your friends after you’re married. But you will also notice that some of your friends will mysteriously vanish too. Of course they are being sweet and want to give you your space; but now that you are married, some single pals may just feel a little awkward. Sorry, you really can’t do anything about it. What you need to do it, CALL them. Your closest friends will stick around no matter what, but they need to know that you want them as badly too. Make plans, enjoy solo with them. That’s the trick.

3. THE SHOCK: Your sex life will switch off—sometimes.
Ahem. Obviously, you will not want to do it ALL the time. The honeymoon is over, the exotic locales, the free time, the exotic food, the clean sheets; that time is over and it is possible that one night you may want to watch your favourite late night serial, or you partner might want to finish the watching the exciting cricket match. So what do you do? Don’t do anything. It is okay for couples to not want to have sex. Better still, cuddle up and sleep off. Research proves couples who are close have better sex lives over a period of time.

4. THE SHOCK: You won’t unpack your china for six months.
Aaaaah. A wonderful thing about weddings. Gifts. Loads and loads of gift. And being the perfect couple that you are, you will want to unpack all of those, and arrange it (maybe colour coordinated) in your brand new showcase. But alas, getting back to work, and the beginning of the humdrum of life, and months later, you find those boxes still lying in your living room. So, what do you do? Assign time for it. Make it your couple-y thing-to-do. And don’t expect to get everything done in one day. Take your time, and in time, it will all get done.

5. THE SHOCK: You won’t want to spend every moment with your new husband/wife.
Yes, your better half may be your best friend too. But at some point in time, he won’t be your only friend. Keep maintaining your individual friendships. It’s always a good idea to have girls-night-out and boys-night-out so that you can have time for yourself too.

6. THE SHOCK: You’ll go to bed mad, even though you vowed not to—ever.
Many a time during your relationship you both may have vowed that you will never go to sleep without solving an argument. But let’s face it; sometimes, it may not happen the way we think. And guess what, that’s okay. Sometimes, forcing to resolve an issue may cause it to become more serious. So, relax, go to sleep; and who knows, tomorrow morning, with a fresh start, you can make up.

You already know that pregnancy pains and hot flashes can keep you tossing and turning at night. But there's a host of other, less-heralded health concerns that may be silently interfering with your shut-eye. Here's how to deal with these stealth sleep stealers, decade by decade.

YOUR 20s and 30s

Check your thyroid. New moms usually blame sluggishness or insomnia on the demands of parenthood, says Dr. Laura Corio, an OB-GYN in private practice in New York City and attending physician at Mt. Sinai Medical Center. But the true culprit may be postpartum thyroiditis, which 5 to 10 percent of women develop in the year following delivery. Typically, it starts with mild hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid), which can rev you up and set off insomnia. After a couple of months, the condition may swing to hypothyroidism, in which a lack of thyroid hormone slows your body's functions, leaving you feeling constantly tired. If you're too jumpy to sleep or have extreme fatigue postpartum, see your doctor. Say goodbye to sadness. Feeling blue can pack a double whammy when it comes to sleep: Not only can depression (which women are most likely to suffer from during their childbearing years) cause sleep problems such as insomnia, but some antidepressant medications may have sleep-related side effects. Donna Arand, Ph.D., clinical director of the Kettering Sleep Disorders Center in Dayton, Ohio, and an American Academy of Sleep Medicine spokeswoman, recommends a two-fold treatment for insomnia with depression: cognitive behavioral therapy, a therapeutic approach which can be used specifically to target insomnia and bad sleep habits, plus talk therapy aimed at alleviating depression, adding or adjusting medication as appropriate. (The antidepressant trazodone may help with both insomnia and depression.)

YOUR 40s

"Decreasing estrogen levels in the mid-40s leads to a thinning of the lining of the vagina and bladder, which makes perimenopausal women more prone to infection," says Corio, author of "The Change Before The Change." Corio adds that women in their early 40s are often very sexually active, which can also lead to more UTIs. Talk to your doc if you notice a change in your bathroom habits. Deepen zzz's with exercise. Deep, restorative sleep (called delta or slow-wave sleep) decreases in your late 40s, making nighttime awakenings more frequent. Working out more may help. Your muscles and tissues are repaired during slow-wave sleep, Arand explains. When you give your body more repair work to do thanks to increased physical exertion, it responds by stepping up the amount of slow-wave sleep you'll get. The type of exercise that's best for triggering slow-wave sleep isn't clear, but aim for 30 minutes of moderate aerobic activity on most days, suggests Wilfred R. Pigeon, Ph.D., director of the Sleep and Neurophysiology Research Lab at the University of Rochester Medical Center.

YOUR 50s+

Mind your meds. Prescription drugs you may be taking for high blood pressure and cholesterol could affect your pillow time. Diuretics (used to treat hypertension) can necessitate nighttime visits to the bathroom, says Dr. Annabelle Volgman, a cardiologist and the medical director of the Heart Center for Women at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. If your doc says it's OK, try taking your pills in the morning instead of the evening. And statins for cholesterol-control can deplete your body's muscles of co-enzyme Q10, a natural protein required for normal functioning of muscle cells; the resulting muscle aches might make falling asleep a challenge. If that sounds like you, Volgman suggests asking your doctor if you might benefit from taking a co-Q10 supplement. Saw less wood. If you're a heavy snorer, your bedmate might not be the only one whose sleep is suffering. Chronic snoring is a major sign of obstructive sleep apnea (OSA), a disorder in which breathing briefly stops periodically while you sleep, interrupting and worsening the quality of your snooze time. OSA can have some heavy consequences, such as worsening or increasing the risk of developing diabetes, hypertension, or stroke. "The risk of developing sleep apnea increases after menopause when progesterone levels drop," Arand says -- possibly because progesterone may help the muscles of the upper airway stay open. Being overweight is also a big risk factor for OSA (and weight gain is a common occurrence during menopause); in some cases, slimming down can actually cure the disorder. Talk to your doctor about your sleep issues; with treatment, you could be snoozing more peacefully in no time.

England Taking Australia Lightly

"The attitude among my English friends has a bit more sarcasm, more lip, more arrogance, but they should just calm down," Warne was quoted as saying by the newspapers here. "Not a ball's been bowled yet, but every (Englishman) seems to think the Ashes are theirs already," he added. Australia have been on the slide in one-dayers and lost a series in India before suffering defeats in the ongoing series against Sri Lanka. But Warne felt the Aussies are known fighters and will bounce back come the Ashes, which start November 25 in Brisbane. "Australia have only lost a couple of home series in 20 years and the history of the Ashes series that I've been involved in, it always brings the best out of you. If England think they're going to walk away with an easy victory, that's the wrong attitude," he said.

"England have a good attack in home conditions, but Jimmy Anderson's record in Australia is horrible; the ball doesn't swing after 10 overs and there's no reverse," he added. "They will rely a lot on Graeme Swann. He'll love being the man with the ball, but if England are going to win they need him to take 25 wickets plus." Warne said the one-day slump may in fact be a blessing in disguise for the Aussies. "In a way it might be good for the Australian team.

“Mumbai is an incredible city which is symbol of energy and optimism of India, ” said President Obama saluting the spirit of Mumbai as he addressed the press at Taj while kick-starting the historic tour to India. Obama mentioned that his visit to Taj is a clear message to terrorists while reiterating that India and US are working closely than ever in the battle against terror. Obama said his decision to stay in Taj Hotel is a powerful message against terrorism and demanded that the perpetrators of the horrific Mumbai attacks should be brought to justice. Accompanied by his wife Michelle, he signed the visitors’ book, looked at the plaque on which the names of 26/11 victims are engraved and delivered a six-minute speech in which he paid tributes to people of Mumbai and India hailing their resolve and resilience.

After attending the memorial service, Obama will address a business summit organised by the US-India Business Council at Trident with entrepreneurs. More than two hundred US CEOs will be attending the summit which focuses on producing jobs for the U.S. economy by clinching big commercial deals for U.S. companies and promoting greater access to Indian markets – particularly in financial and retail sectors. The Obama administration had set a goal of doubling US exports over the next five years to create more jobs back home.
